Semi-Permanent Brows

Also known as eyebrow embroidery, Microblading is a form of semi permanent makeup whereby pigment is implanted under the skin with a manual handheld tool to create nano (ultra fine) hair strokes.

Micropigmentation is a similar process using electric tools that allow shading effects such as hybrid and ombré brows for an alternative look.

A patch test is required at least 48 hours before treatment.

What is Microblading?

Also known as eyebrow embroidery, Microblading is a form of semi permanent makeup whereby pigment is implanted under the skin with a manual handheld tool to create ultra fine hair strokes. This is a two part treatment with a gap of around 6-8 weeks between both sessions.

The beauty of having Microblading done is apparent if you have tried and tested every pencil, brow shadow, creme, gel or even a stencil to fill in your brows but at the end of the day, when you take your makeup off – you are still left with sparse or patchy brows!

Does Microblading hurt?

Before the procedure begins,  a topical numbing cream is applied to the brow area to minimise any pain. Although you might still feel a slight discomfort, it can be almost painless.

The effectiveness of the numbing cream varies from person to person. Rest assured I will re apply numb during the treatment if it starts to wear off sooner than we would like it to.

How long does it last?

Microblading does not penetrate as deep into the skin as a conventional permanent tattoo. Therefore, it  can last anywhere between 6 months up to 24 months. This will differ from person to person, depending on skin type, age and individual lifestyle choices. Although the hair strokes will eventually fade sometimes, some pigment can still remain in the skin indefinitely.

What else should I know?

Is microblading suitable for me?

More and more women are choosing permanent makeup as the solution for subtle yet noticeable changes to their look. So why not you?

Eyebrow tattooing has improved in leaps and bounds over the years with more and more choice in techniques to reflect the style of brow you wish to wear. I consider Microblading to be a technique that gives you ‘your everyday brows’, in other words, natural looking enhancement of your current eyebrows (or if you don’t have any then creating your natural eyebrows from scratch). In my opinion, this gives you the flexibility to wear them strong and dramatic with the addition of makeup ( you would use your Microbladed brows as your template so it would be fairly easy to do) or softer yet pretty perfect for an everyday look.

Certain medical or skin conditions may mean that semi permanent makeup is unsuitable for you or a Doctors consent is required before proceeding. These include:

  • Extremely oily skin and/or very large pores on your forehead. This is because the hairstroke pigment maybe rejected or may heal blurry with loss of detail. (Slightly oily skin may however take to the pigment, but you might need frequent colour boost touch ups)
  • Very sun damaged skin
  • If you are using Accutane or have used it within the past year
  • Very delicate, fragile, sensitive or problematic skin especially around the brow area. Certain conditions like Eczema, Psoriasis, Rocasea present on the face can effect the retention and longevity of the pigment
  • Pregnant or Nursing
  • Highly prone to scarring or keloids
  • Epileptic
  • High doses of long term medication for certain health conditions
  • Under the age of 18

Please take the time to have a proper consultation to find out about the treatment and what you can achieve from it. If you are unsure of any medical conditions that may or may not allow you to have Microblading done, I may suggest to consult your doctor before hand.

I always ask that you come along for a pre consultation before committing to anything to ensure you are making an informed decision about having this treatment, it is after all a form of permanent makeup so I want you to be 100% sure you want it.

Will I no longer need to have regular brow maintenance

Microblading will give you the brow shape you want so you don’t always have to draw them on, however it will not effect your natural brow hair growth. I recommend you keep up with regular brow shaping appointments to maintain your new beautiful shape.

When is the best time to have my brows microbladed?
I strongly advice prospective new clients to book their first Microblading appointment at least 3-4 months before a holiday, wedding or other special occasion. This allows adequate time for healing of both your initial Microblading session and touch up session 6-8 weeks later.

Some other points to consider when booking your appointment:

  • Have at least 2-3 weeks growth of your natural brow hairs for your appointment
  • Do not tan or use sun beds for at least 2 weeks prior to treatment
  • Discontinue Vitamin A /Retinol products for at least 1 month prior to treatment
  • Do not have Botox or fillers for at least 3 weeks prior to treatment
  • Do not have Microneedling or Dermaplaning done for atleast 4 weeks prior to treatment
  • Do not take any Fish oil or Vitamin E products for 1 week prior to treatment
  • Do not wax or tint your brows for at least 1 week prior to treatment

To avoid excessive bleeding or poor colour deposit:

  • Do not drink alcohol 24 hours before your procedure
  • Do not take aspirin or ibruprofen as a form of pain relief 24-48 hours before your procedure
  • Avoid drinking strong coffee before the treatment
What is the aftercare advice

For best results, it is imperative that you follow the aftercare advice, the best results will come from keeping your brows clean and dry.

I will talk you through the aftercare advice in more detail at the appointment but it’s important to know what to expect before committing to the treatment:

    • You will need to clean the brows 3 times a day and apply a healing cream which you will receive in your aftercare kit at the treatment for up to 2 weeks.
Do not get the brows wet
  • Avoid getting your brows wet when bathing or showering for the first 2 weeks. Shower as normal but avoid getting any, soap, shampoo or direct water spray on your face. Keep paper towels to hand to blot them dry if you do accidentally get them moist.
  • Instead of washing your face as normal, use a face cloth or facial cleansing wipes to clean your face and wipe around the brows to keep them dry
  • Do not go swimming, use a sauna, steam or jacuzzi for at least 2 weeks.
  • Do not apply any makeup on or around the brow area for atleast 10 days
  • Do not scratch or itch the brows or pick at any of the scabs as this will prolong the healing, lift out pigment and may even create an infection. If you follow the above advice correctly you will not notice the scabbing much.
  • Do not do any heavy exercise or activity that will make you sweat for up to 10 days
  • Do not use petroleum based products (Vaseline) on the brows while they are healing
  • Do not bleach or tint brows for 4 weeks post procedure
  • Do not use any anti ageing, skin lightening or anti acne products in the brow area while they are healing
  • Avoid direct sun exposure for at least 2 weeks
What to expect during the healing process

Microblading is a two part treatment and you will see them go through various phases during the healing processes. In a nutshell, this is what to expect during the healing period:

  • Day 1 fine detailed brows to show off with possibly a little bit of redness which subsidises after a few hours
  • Day 2- 4 they will appear considerably darker and look crisp, more filled in while they form a very light scab. PLEASE DO NOT PANIC, this is only temporary!
  • Day 5-12 the scab naturally exfoliates and starts to peel or flake away over several days. During this time, fresh new skin will start to come through and look paler and waxier. This will make the brows appear lighter or patchy. Please be patient, it’s all part of the healing process.
  • Day 10-30 as you start to resume to normal routine you may notice that your brows have gone patchy or faded in some places. But as you come closer to the 4 week mark, the eyebrows will start to come come back to life and appear crisp at the surface of the skin again as your new skin settles and heals. The true colour of your brows will start to show now and you will be closer to coming back in for your top up appointment. Any adjustments and reinforcements to the shape, colour or finish of your new brows will be taken care of at the touch up appointment. After the first 2 weeks of the healing process, you can use makeup to fill in any gaps while you wait for your touch up appointment but please ensure you have a preferably new, unused product to use.
